Cong burns effigy of Assembly Speaker, demands resignation

Sunday, 20 July 2014 | PNS | Raipur

The city unit of Congress party on Saturday burnt the effigy of Assembly speaker Gaurishankar Agrawal for his alleged involvement in a land grab case.

The Congress party has been demanding resignation from Agrawal on moral ground after his name surfaced for allegedly grabbing a government land worth crores of rupees near Mahadev Ghat and illegally developing a temple, shops and some other constructions on it.

“Agrawal, with the help of a trust, illegally took possession over the land, developed a temple, market and other construction on it” alleged the city wing president of Congress party, Vikas Upadhyay. He added that no illegal construction was removed from the spot despite of issuing notice in this regard.

Upadhyay demanded that illegal construction should be removed immediately and an FIR should be lodged against the SDM, the assistant engineer of CSEB and other officials concerned, who were involved in the case.
