Friday, 11 July 2014 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

A play filled with confusion, drama, lot of absurdness was staged here on Thursday at Shaheed Bhawan Auditorium.

The play Ek Natakkar Ki Khoj Me Chheh Kirdaar of comedy-drama genre was presented here on Thursday before the theater goers of the city. Directed by Chandrahas Tiwari and Gopal Dubey the play was wonderfully presented by The Rising Society of Art and Culture (RISAC), Bhopal. While talking about the play Gopal Dubey said, “This play was in plan for a long under the direction of Chandrahas Tiwari, but his sudden death, the play was postponed and so we are presenting it now.”

The play is an adaptation of the Italian drama Six Charatcers in Search of An Author. This play is written by an Italian dramatist, novelist and poet luigi Pirandello. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature in 1934. His tragic farces are often seen as highlights in the world of the theater of the Absurd.

Ek Natakkar Ki Khoj Me Chheh Kirdaar is play all about tragic moments, some comic ones, some confusion and a lot of drama. The play begins introducing a theatre company where a director is rehearsing for a play with his actors and suddenly is rudely interrupted by six strangers.

The strangers claim to be looking for an author and tell the director that their director has left them without finishing the story. The director and the six characters get enmeshed in an argument which seamlessly flows into a play which starts to get enacted in front of the troupe of the actors. This play within a play is a tragic drama full of heightened emotions. According to the director it is relevant even today since it plays with the topics of incest, class difference, prostitution, failed marriages and innocence lost.

The highlight of the play is the writing itself which leaves the audience with different interpretations. The perfect timing and matured acting skills were some of the forte of the play making it worth watching. As it was the first show of this play in the city, the RISAC artists managed well to capture the attention of the audience towards them.
