The Chhattisgarh Government has reserved 6 per cent quota for persons with disabilities in Government jobs and is said to be the best performing among the other Indian States in this regard” said Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (PWD) Prasanna Kumar Pincha on Friday.
Pincha, who is presently touring different parts of the country, arrived here to look into the implementation of Persons with Disabilities (PWD) Act, 1995 in the State.He met with the representatives of Government and Non government organisations (NGO) working in this field along with the officials of the Social Welfare department and the district administration at new Circuit House Conference Hall situated at Civil lines here.
While addressing the officials, Pincha discussed issues for better implementation of the Act. He also received suggestions and learnt about difficulties encountered by various organizations and the officials concerned in carrying out different works meant for welfare of the persons with disabilities.“There is a need to implement the provision in the PWD Act that 3% must be reserved for persons with disabilities in any government jobs,” said Pincha. He added that the Commission is impressed with the State government reserving just double quota than prescribed by the Central government in the Act for persons with disabilities.
Pincha said that he had toured different states to see to what the extent the legislation for the welfare of disabled persons has been implemented by the states.
