Buxi getting subsidy saplings for 180 yrs!

Monday, 25 August 2014 | PNS | PURI

Believe it or not, freedom fighter Buxi Jagabandhu Bidyadhara Mohapatra has been cited to be receiving saplings of coconut and several other fruits, besides fertiliser and pesticides, at concessional rates for cultivation in one hectare of agriculture land at his village Gada Rodanga under Brahmagiri tehsil.

He was provided with 160 coconut, 80 papaya and 30 black pepper saplings and some cash lately. While receiving them he has acknowledged it by putting his own signature on official papers every year.

This was revealed by none other than the Deputy Director of Coconut Development Board, who admitted that in 2008 and 2009, Buxi received the items and other subsidies by putting his own signature in Government papers. He said that the Board has been granting saplings and other things every year for the last 180 years in the name of Buxi. The revelation has startled many and there were some who said that Buxi’s case might be the tip of an iceberg.
