BJP’s youth wing Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha(BJYM) fought a pitched battle with the police force, leaving several injured and halting the entire area for over two hours at Vidhan Sabha Bhawan on Monday.

The clash begun when the security forces stationed outside the Vidhan Sabha Bhawan stopped the strong force of BJYM members who marched to gherao the Vidhan Sabha at 12 noon.To stop the agitators from crossing the barricades and control the situation, police forces had to use water canon, fire eight rounds of tear gas, use rubber bullets and cane charged the demonstrators.

The demonstrators both men and women, replied by pelting stones and fisty cluff, inwhich over one dozen police personnel and  over 100 BJYM members were injured out of which 40 are serious and had been admitted to the trauma centre.

As a pre planned demonstration, members of BJYM from all over the state marched under the leadership of their state president Ashutosh Rai from party’s office to register their protest against the law and order situation, crime against women and unemployement. The demonstrators alleged that while they were marching peacefully, the police force took them by surprise and charged them with cane.

“We were marching to demonstrate when security forces stationed outside Vidhan Sabha Bhawan took us by surprise and start to beat us with cane. To protect ourselves, we had to reply. Most of pur collegues were injured in which Rakesh Pandey and Daya Shankar Singh and Bhawana Rai recieved multiple injuries including fracture,” said BJYM spokesperson Satya Vrat Tripathi.

SP East, Rajesh Kumar said that the demonstrators had destroyed public properties, shattered several vehicles including the media van and disturbed the genreal public by blocking the whole road.“This is not the way to demonstrate. When the demonstrators start to cross the barricades we tried to start the conversation but they wont listen and started using force to cross the barricades. To control the situation, we had to use force after which they started to pelting stones and destroying the public properties including an OB van of elecotrnic media,” said SP East.

Three complaints had been registerd against the demonstrators including one from Kiran Singh,  driver of the OB van of the electronic media house.Reacting to the whole incident State president of BJP, laxmi Kant Bajpai criticised the state government and called upon the party workers to initiate a state wide stirr against the state government and police.

Bajpai accused the police had brutaly beatn up the members of youth wing and did not even spared the women demonstrators, who also recieved several injuries. He also accused the police for attacking the BJP office and held Samajwadi Party lead state gtovernment and the district administration responsible.

Due to the clash, the traffic of the area was hit as the Vidhan Sabha Road stayed closed between 12noon to 2.45pm. later after contolling the situation, police officials opened the road for commuters and for the fear of retaliation from BJYM, they stayed outside the BJP state office, guarding the Vidhan Sabha Marg.
