In a major breakthrough in the case of an SMS threat sent on DGP Rajiv Kumar's mobile phone on Tuesday, the Jamshedpur police on Friday arrested one advocate along with his assistant.
The advocate sent the threat message in order to take revenge on one Prabhash Mishra at the behest of District Welfare Officer (DWO) Sanjay Kumar Thakur posted in Saraikela Kharsawan.Prabhash allegedly was troubling the DWO seeking information under the Right to Information (RTI) at the behest of his brother-in-law Sunil Jha, working as a clerk under the DWO, and Jha was allegedly being tortured by the DWO.
"The main culprit behind the SMS threat case - Sudheer Kumar Thakur - has been arrested from TElCO area of Jamshedpur along with his assistant Gunjan Kumar," said the DGP, addressing media persons here on Friday. Gunjan Kumar has been found to be involved in providing fake driving licence to Thakur, added the DGP.
The DGP, however, said that the investigation is being carried out by the Jamshedpur SSP regarding the authenticity of the statements recorded by Thakur. The DGP also turned down the possibility of involvement of any Naxal outfit in this episode."In his statement, Thakur has admitted that he had sent the SMS threats to DGP and two others only in order to take against from Prabhash Mishra who was creating trouble for the Saraikela-Kharsawan DWO by seeking information on trivial issues," said Jamshedpur SSP AV Homkar.
According to Thakur, when the DWO mentioned the matter to Thakur, he decided to take revenge on him and the plot was prepared along with his assistant Gunjan Kumar, Homkar further said.Gunjan Kumar provided fake driving licence to Thakur and they together purchased the SIM card from one street vendor Ayush Aman at Shere Punjab Chawk in Jamshedpur, added the SSP.
The police have recovered one photo copy of the forged licence and a hand- written address of Prabhash Kumar Mishra. Thakur during interrogation has also admitted that after using it for sending SMS threats to the DGP, he first tried to dispose it to a meat seller Sonam Kumar known to him, who, after using if for a few days returned it to Thakur, sensing something fishy into the deal.
The police possibly reached the meat seller Sonam Kumar through the IMEI number of the mobile set which was used by him by inserting his own SIM into it. The police tracking the SIM used in the set of that specific number reached out to Kumar.Thakur also tried to destroy the mobile set after being returned by the meat seller, remains of which has been recovered by the police from a drain near JRD Tata square in Jamshedpur.
Remarkably, the SIM card was used only three times that too for sending only threat messages since it was purchased on May 23, 2014. The third and the last SMS was sent to the DGP itself on Tuesday, before that Chakulia BDO was also sent a threat SMS on his mobile number - 9430379171 asking for a levy of Rs 5 lakh. The first SMS, however, was sent to one businessman Manish Gupta of Jamshedpur on May 25. Gupta has refused to have received SMS from the said mobile number.
