Dilip Kanhar shines in Secretariat Cup cricket

Bhubaneswar: Dilip Kanhar of Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) smashed 92 runs but the team suffered defeat from SOA University by eight wickets in the 16th Secretariat Cup Cricket Tournament at Indira Maidan here on Sunday. Dilip bagged the man of the match award. Sukanta Jenna of lIC scored 80 runs and powered the team to beat Infosys by 14 runs. In other matches of the day, Reliance and CESU defeated TCS and Vodafone by eight and 74 runs respectively.

Brief score: CESU 137/8 in 20 over (Dilip Majhi 33 runs, Bipin Nandi 26 runs, Jayata Martha 24 runs, Santosh Mohanty (Vodafone) 3 wkts, Rakesh Swain and Prakruti Mishra (Vodafone) 2 wkts each) beat Vodafone 64 / 10 in 13.5 over (Dipti Mishra 4/12) by 74 runs. lIC 133/10 in 19.5 overs (Sukanta Jena 80; Rajesh Pani 4 wkts) beat Infosys 120-8 in 20 overs ( Amit Jaiswal 35, Soumjit Mandal 24; Prasant Biswal 3 wkts, BB Das 2 wkts) by 14 runs.

Reliance 109/ 7 in 20 over overs ( Kallol Saha 34 runs; Bibek Das and Sitakanta Senapati (TCS)  2 wkts each) lost to TCS 113 / 2 in 14 over (Pinaki Mishra 36 n.o; Subhrajit Behera 30 runs, Hrudananda (Reliance)  2 wkts) by 8 wickets.

BDA 142/6 in 20 over (Dilip Kanhar 92 , Jayanta Jena 20 ) lost to SOA University  143 / 2 in 19.3 over (Nihar Ranjan lenka 42 , Biswajit Sahu 40,  Rajesh Paikray 39) by 8 wickets.

OCA announces U-19 cricket team

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) has been announced on Sunday, the State U-19 Team for the match against Tamil Nadu in the ensuing BCCI U-19 Cooch Behar Trophy Group-C league : 2014-15 scheduled to be held from 12th to 15th December 2014 at Chennai. The 15-member State team would be lead by Suman Mohanty as captain and Rajkishan Patel as vice captain of the team. Subrat Behera and Sk Salauddin would accompany the team as coach and manager respectively.

State Team: Suman Mohanty (Captain), Rajkishan Patel (vice captain), Rajesh Dhuper (wk), Devender Kuanr, Sandeep Patnaik, Asutosh Das, Subham Nayak, Dibyajyoti Pradhan, Sanjay Das, Amrit Khatua, Subrat Samal (wk), Satyajit Sabat, Abinnash Behera, Debipriya Patnaik, Girija Barik, Sk Salauddin (manager, Subrat Behera (coach), Satyajit Das (physio), Jorti Ranjan Das (trainer) and Subas Mohanty (observer).

Rugby Men’s Team qualify for National Games

Bhubanneswar: As top eight rugby teams of the country will participate in the 35th National Games schedule to be held at Kerala in February 2015. Odisha Rugby Football Men’s team qualified to participate in the National Games. Odisha defeated Punjab, Tamil Nadu and Jammu and Kashmir by 34-0, 16-5 and 12-5 points respectively in the two-day-long All India Senior Nationals Rugby 7s men’s qualifier meet, which concluded at Salt lake Stadium in Kolkata, West Bengal on Sunday. Odisha suffered in one match from Tamil Nadu by 7-12 points. Gouranga Jamuda, Rajeev Nath, Gyana Ranjan Prusty, Bariyal Besra, Chhitaranjan Murmu, Rajkishor Murmu, Muna Murmu, Manash Kumar Jena, Roshan Xaxa, Rajan Kumar Sahu, Subhra Narayan Mohanty and Babula Malaka are the members of the State team. Dhiren Kumar Rout and Ganesh Hembram accompanied the team as coach and manager respectively.

ECoR enters Tamando Cup Football semis

Bhubaneswar: East Coast Railway (ECoR) entered into the semifinals of the All Odisha 23rd Tamando Cup Football Tournament at the city outskirt on Sunday, by defeating Home Gurad of Cuttack by 4-3 goals via through penalty kicks, being organised by Shiva Sakti Club of Tamando. The nail biting quarterfinal match ended in goalless draw in the stipulated time. Gokula Oram, Maheswar Das, Bikash Krishna and Sk Mustakin of ECoR successfully converted their kicks into goals. Similarly, Kasinath ludu, Jaganath Nayak and S Bux of the Home Guard team netted a goal each. Bhubaneswar Athletic Association (BAA) secretary SR Parija presented the man of the match award to Santosh Das of the ECoR. Siba Prasad Dash, Priyabrata Bahinipati, Susanta Kumar Mishra and Abhinash Pattnaik were officiated the match. In the semifinal match on Tuesday, RK Academy of Kanpur would meet Sports Hostel of Cuttack.
