Hrusikesh again to don Kansa role at B’garh
Bargarh: Hrusikesh Bhoi will play the role of mythological character Maharaja Kansa during the world-famous Dhanu Yatra here this year, said Bargarh district Collector Anjan Kumar Manik on Tuesday. This is the second time, Bhoi has been chosen to play the role. In 2009, Bhoi was selected for the character for the 11-day open-air drama. Bhoi, a native of the district, was quite successful in playing the crucial role.
Fake currency notes seized from student
Baripada: Police on Monday arrested a college student after recovering fake currency notes from his possession at Bangiriposi in Mayurbhanj district. “We have recovered 17 fake currency notes of Rs500 denomination from a student of a local college,” said a police officer. However, the main accused in the fake currency note case, a vegetable vendor, was absconding since the arrest of the college student, he added. The college student claimed that he was given the fake notes by the vegetable vendor.
Satyasai birthday observed at Banpur
Banpur: The Sathya Sai Seva Samiti observed the birthday of Satyasai Baba withmuch fervour here on Sunday. On the occasion, around 100 underprivileged people were distributed with blankets and bed sheets. In the evening, a cake-cutting ceremony was also held followed by Bhajan. Besides, children of Balvikash celebrated the day with fire crackers and by singing devotional songs. later, Ramabalabha Mohapatra focused on the difference between Satyasai organisations and Seva-based organisations. Nearly, 1000 devotees were distributed with Prasad on the day.
Ex-Subarnpur amin gets 1-yEAr RI
Bargarh: Balangir Vigilance Special Court recently awarded one year rigorous imprisonment to former Amin of Andharibaji tehsil in Subarnapur district Harekrushna Rout and imposed a fine of Rs2000 on him while convicting him in a bribe case. Rout had taken bribe of Rs1,000 from one, Surendra Kumar Sahu, Samarchipa village under the Rampur Police Station way back in 2010 for demarcation of a land. Rout would undergo another month of jail concurrently if fails to pay the fine, said the court.
Sambalpur Vig collects Rs3.38 cr Casual Tax
Bargarh: The Sales Tax Wing of Sambalpur Vigilance Division on Sunday intercepted eight vehicles carrying taxable goods without supporting documents at various places in Bargarh and Jharsuguda districts and collected total tax of Rs23,43,478 from them. With this the wing has collected a total of Casual Tax of Rs3.38 crore till date during the year 2014, said the Sambalpur Vigilane SP.
