Tirkey undergoes ankle surgery in Australia
Bhubaneswar: Former India hockey captain and Rajya Sabha member Dilip Tirkey on Thursday underwent an ankle surgery at the Sportsmed SA, a premier sports medicine institute in Adelaide, Australia. He will stay there for two weeks. He was forced to retire from the game prematurely due to ankle problems.
Youth leader helps lightning victims’ kin
Jajpur: Youth leader and unsuccessful Independent candidate of the Bari Assembly constituency Biswaranjan Mallick visited the family members of deceased Madhia Mallick (30) and lisarani Samal (13), who died in lightning at Routpur under the Bari police station recently. He provided monetary assistance of Rs10,000 to each family.
M’bhanj man sentenced to life for killing ‘witch’
Baripada: A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a court in Mayurbhanj district for killing a woman suspecting her to be a witch. Additional District Judge, Baripada Asanta Kumar Das held Prafulla Santara, a tribal of Badabhalia village, guilty of killing Jhunumani Santara (25) of the same village on October 6, 2011. Prafulla had allegedly beaten Jhunumani to death with a stick as he suspected that she was practising witchcraft that led to ailments in his family.
