Two persons died and another was seriously injured when a wild tusker attacked them on Friday in Mayurbhanj district, official sources said.
The deceased were identified as Jhoteswar Mohanta (12) of Ambagadia and Kshetramani Dhal (50) of Dantiamuha village under Betanati forest range, Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF), Baripada, Arun Patra said.
The jumbo also damaged the boundary wall of the gram panchayat building at Dantiamuha.
The tusker retreated into the nearby Gandigada forests and forest personnel were making efforts to chase it away from the area, Patra said, adding the area was
not a known elephant corridor.
