The 12th Governor's Cup Golf Tournament began in Nainital on Friday, with the Governor of Uttarakhand, Dr Aziz Qureshi, teeing off the three-day long tournament at Raj Bhawan in Nainital this morning.
More than 130 golfers from different parts of the country are taking part in this annual golf tournament in the lake city this year. As many as 38 golfers participated in the inaugural day of the tournaments. Speaking on this occasion, Governor of Uttarakhand Dr Aziz Qureshi said this annual golf tournament is coming in handy to popualrise Nainital as a special tourist destination at the national and international level.
Keeping in view the popularity of the Rajbhawan Golf Cup and more importantly, interest among the people about this sports, efforts are on to organise other golf tournaments like the Invitation Cup, Gold Cup, ladies Tournament to name a few, added the Governor of Uttarakhand. He also announced that golf tournament will also be organised on the occasion of winter festival -Shardotsav.
In the meanwhile, a cultural programme was also organised on Friday evening to familiarise the golfers who have come to participate in this Governor's Cup Golf Tournament from different parts of the country with Uttarakhand's ancient civilisation and culture.
