With a social-media savvy Prime Minister at the helm, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry has turned pro-active — asking all the Ministries to utilise a ‘Social Media Communication Hub’ — set up by the Ministry on Friday.
The I&B Ministry has also offered facilitating the Twitter and Facebook accounts of other Ministries and would respond to the public through social media to the Government policies and programmes, according to new I&B Minister Prakash Javadekar. In a letter addressed to different Ministries, Javadekar said the PM has set new benchmarks in the social media domain. “The PM now expects all his ministerial colleagues to use the social media platform extensively to disseminate the new initiatives of the Government,” Javadekar said in his letter.
He said the I&B Ministry has a ‘New Media Wing’ with the objective of effective dissemination of information and to provide Government communication a robust platform on social media.“As a part of this process, a ‘Social Media Communication Hub’, a one-stop place, for all communication needs of the Government on the social media platforms — based on the ‘Hub-and-Spoke’ model — has also been set up,” Javadekar said.
“It is a new kind of clipping service”, the Minster said while taking charge of his additional ministry of Parliamentary affairs.
