Around 50% voting in Rajkot West bypoll

Thursday, 16 October 2014 | PNS | GANDHINAGAR

Nearly 50 per cent voting was registered in the Rajkot West Assembly seat by-election. The election process ended peacefully as no untoward incident was recorded in the previous constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In the morning, voting was very slow, however, later voters started coming out of their homes for voting. Despite the fact, voter’s turnout remained low compared to 64.23 per cent in the lS election in April this year. In the first two hours during 7 to 9 am only 6.44 per cent voting was registered. Karnataka Governor and former speaker of Gujarat Assembly Vajubhai Vala, who was elected from this constituency for seven terms, also used his franchise to vote.

Modi’s close aide and Saurashtra-Kutch region in-charge for the saffron brigade, Vijay Rupani is contesting against strong Kadva Patel leader and Congress candidate Jayantibhai Kalaria.
