A day after the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) were declared, hordes of people flocked to the Delhi University Conference Centre for the last open day session on Friday. looking at the number of students and parents, the university decided to extend the open house by another day. Thus, a session will also be held on Saturday which was not on the charts earlier.
According to officials at the university, approximately 5,000 people attended the open session which is five times the number of people who attended the remaining sessions throughout the week. “We never expected such a big crowd. We had to run three parallel sessions to accommodate the crowd and in spite of that we had to conduct almost eight sessions,” said Joint Dean, Students Welfare, Malay Neerav.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Dinesh Singh, was also present at the open day session. He introduced parents and students to the newly-implemented incubation centres for students at colleges. He said that the idea was to create entrepreneurs and job creators. “Every college will now have a business incubation centre. Students can go to the incubation centres with their business ideas. Whichever idea is accepted by the incubation centre will be given Rs12 lakh by the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) to further develop and put the idea into action. The varsity has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the MSME.”
At the moment the incubation centres are only available at Acharya Narendra Dev College and Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma (ARSD) College. However, now they will be introduced in all colleges. According to Singh, since Business Enterprise Management is taught to students as a foundation course, introducing incubation centres in all colleges is a good idea.
