Tragedy struck Delhi and its neighbourhood as an unpredicted squall claimed nine lives and left over three dozens injured on Friday evening. In Delhi alone, six persons were killed including a 17-year-old boy in Vivek Vihar in East Delhi who was decapitated after a flying tin shed slit his throat. The boy was outside his home when the incident took place. An 18-year-old girl in Najafgarh died after a wall collapsed on her while she was returning home from tuition.
The 17-year-old youth, identified as Anu, lost his life when a tin sheet slit his neck and then hit his 51-year-old mother Manjeet Kaur’s head leaving her critically injured in Vivek Vihar area in east Delhi. Four other people were injured in East Delhi when a wall collapsed on them. In South-West Delhi, two people, including an 18-year-old girl, were killed. The Class XII student lost her life after a portion of a boundary wall collapsed on her around 5.15 pm. The girl was identified as Aasha Malik and she was returning home after tuition classes. She was rushed to Rao Tula Ram Hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Three people were injured in North-East Delhi while another trio was injured in Nizamuddin area in South- East Delhi. In Central Delhi, a 24-year-old cab driver, identified as Chattarpal, died after a tree fell on his car in IP Estate area around 5.30 pm. In North Delhi, a man identified as Younis was killed after a tree fell on him. A 20-year-old youth was killed when a hoarding flew and hit a terrace and then subsequently bricks dropped on his head in Mayapuri area of West Delhi. The deceased has been identified as Chandrashekhar.
In Noida, five people, including three children, were injured in Noida’s Sector 70. Incident was reported at evening when the top floor of an under constructed Ashiana Apartment collapsed and the victims came in contact with debris. Police identified the victim as Neela, Panna, Mohit and two others. Police in Ghaziabad said the storm claimed three lives and injured more than a 12 people besides causing heavy loss to property in different parts of the city.
