After the delay of four years, Delhiites will be able to experience the inimitable ride similar to iconic london Eye in United Kingdom, at Kalindi Kunj. Delhi Eye, a mechanised giant ferris wheel, which was set up at an amusement park along the Yamuna at the Delhi-Noida border, is ready and will be thrown open to public from October 2. last time, the opening of the facility had to be called off in 2010 as the promoter failed to procure requisite permission from the authorities.
Imran Ali Khan, promoter of the project, said a foreign-based company was roped in to install Delhi Eye, which is India’s tallest giant wheel. A ride on the Delhi Eye will cost `250 per person as an inaugural offer.Khan further said the giant wheel will provide scenic view of the Capital as the users of the facility will be able to watch Connaught Place, Nehru Place, lotus Temple and other parts of city.
“One can capture a panoramic view of the city. It is as tall as a 15-storey building. Monuments located as far as Qutub Minar and Red Fort to Akshardham Temple, lotus Temple and Humayun’s Tomb apart from a bird’s eye view of Connaught Place will be visible from it. For a ride in one of the wheel’s 36 air-conditioned pods, one will have to shell out about `250,” Khan added.
This time the promoter company had not planned a grand inaugural ceremony like they had announced previously. The wheel was to be inaugurated in September 2010 by actor Shah Rukh Khan before the Commonwealth Games.“The amusement park also offers several other unique and interesting rides, including a haunted house and a water park,” Khan said.
In September, large number of visitors had thronged the venue as news spread of the inauguration by Shah Rukh Khan. The function had to be called last-minute police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the curious onlookers. More than 2,000 people had gathered to attend the event.
