Following the custodial death of a man in South-West Delhi’s Bindapur area, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Bindapur has been sent to district lines for negligence delivered on his part. Five police officials of Bindapur police station were already arrested on Monday in connection with the case. The investigation of the case has also been transferred to the Crime Branch.
Thirty-year-old Manoj was allegedly tortured by five policemen after they picked him up for questioning with regard to a firing case at a wedding. The decision to send SHO Kishore Kumar to the district police lines and handing over the case to Crime Branch was taken after family of the deceased today met top brass of the Delhi Police at the Police Headquarters and demanding strict action against the erring policemen and a thorough probe. Police officials have also requested for a panel of doctors to be formed for conducting the post-mortem examination of the deceased.
A judicial inquiry has already been ordered into the matter. Head constable Bhoop Singh, constables Rajesh, Sudeep, Uttam and Arvind were arrested in this connection. Instead of taking Manoj to Bindapur police station, the accused took him to Old Matiala police chowki where his health deteriorated. Manoj was rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhayay (DDU) Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
