Shake a leg

Noida-based Srishti Jain has been shortlisted in the top 16 of Dance India Dance 4. She shared with I Kaur her love for Madhuri Dixit

When Srishti Jain’s mother put her in folk dance classes at the age of three, she didn’t think her daughter would grow up and pursue it as a career option. Maybe that is why when she said that wanted to do full-time dance training in final year college, her mother was hesitant. However, six years post that, Srishti has won the best dancer award at her academy, been to Canada for a month-long workshop and is currently in the top 16 of Zee TV’s Dance India Dance Season 4. “Being in top 16 of DID is the best feeling in the world. There are so many people who come for the auditions and just being there on stage to perform is crazy. It feels unreal,” said the Noida-based dancer who was recently in the Capital to attend the India International Trade Fair.

Srishti is also a big fan of Madhuri Dixit. According to her, Madhuri’s body language and expressions make dance a better art. “I’ve followed her since I was little. I love her because her face has this glow and her body language is great. You can see the happiness on her face when she dances. The purity comes across and she dances with her soul. I adore that and try to inculcate it all the time,” she said.

Srishti fought against the will of her parents and even juggled academics with dance before she reached here. Through all of that, there is only one person she thanks — her cousin brother Ankur. She elaborated, “He is 10 years elder to me and is my Masi’s son. He is the biggest inspiration in my life. He has been there for me at all times. Even when my parents weren’t too happy with me pursuing dance, he would go and convince them. I think he is my best friend, guide, brother, support system, everything. He has helped me reach here.”

Post DID, Srishti said that she wants to pursue choreography. “First of all, I will shift base to Mumbai so that I get more opportunities. I’m going to keep on dancing and performing. I also want to build my skills as a choreographer and want to eventually train people in advanced dance techniques,” she added.
