Jamie needs no lever-age

Sunday, 14 July 2013 | SANGEETA YADAV

Daughter of ace comedienne Johnny lever, Jamie J says she is mentally and physically prepared to take the world on. She begins her stint with Comedy Circus Mahabali starting this August. Apart from sharing screen space with other renowned actors, Jamie is super excited about performing before her favourite judges. Sangeeta yadav chats up the funny girl on her debut and other things in life

ON CHIlDHOOD

My dad was not around much during my growing up years. He was a busy man trying to make a career for himself. But I was lucky to have my mother as a constant support and guide. She encouraged me a lot and helped me select the right path. I found a good friend in her and we share a great rapport.

On debut show

With Comedy Circus Ke Mahabali, I would be doing something on my own. When I gave the auditions for this show, nobody knew I was Johnny lever’s daughter. It was only after my selection that I revealed that I was his daughter. I wanted to achieve something without the ‘lever’ tag. The other contestants in the show respect me a lot and I am happy to have arrived here. This new season of Comedy Circus promises to be bigger and better.

The show will bring new comedians from all over India who will be paired with Vinay Pathak, Ranvir Shorey, Krishna, Bharti, Kapil Sharma and many others. It’s going to be more fun and a complete package of family comedy. I haven’t got a chance to meet Archana Puran Singh and Arbaaz Khan yet, but I am already nervous about performing in front of such acclaimed judges.

ON FAMIlY

My brother, Jesse is two years younger but we are more of friends than siblings. He is a great actor and we have performed together many times on stage but never on screen. May be, some day, we’ll act together on TV or for movies. We would prove to be quite a jodi.

ON MOVIES

I am content with the kind of work I am getting right now. I don’t want to rush into things. Right now, I’m booked for Comedy Circus and I am going to give it my best shot. I want to make it big in Bollywood too but not as Johnny lever’s daughter. I want to carve out a place for myself.
