After the failed attempt to demonstrate near Governor House on Saturday, the non-teaching staff of the State universities have decided to go on indefinite hunger strike again from Tuesday onwards. Student Unions have also come in support of the agitating employees.
These staff of all the five Jharkhand state universities including Ranchi University , Kolhan University, Vinoba Bhave University , Sido Kanhu Murmu University and Nilamber Pitamber University are on strike since February 19 with the demands to grant them their pending fifth pay, sixth pay commission and other assured career promotion benefits.
last week the state government requested these staffs to end their strike by 5 pm of May 17. Government also declared to provide the salary if the staffs come back to their work. Though majority employees have joined but the agitation of the remaining ones is still a matter of concern.
On Saturday morning around 100 staffs gathered at RU and then proceeded towards Governor House. They were apprehended near Kutchery chowk and confined at Jaipal Singh Stadium till evening after which they were released.
“We want the Governor to hear our justified demands and take prompt action on those. We are even ready to face any kind of hassles for our demand fulfilment,” said general secretary of Jharkhand non-teaching staff association Shivji Tiwari.
