Arrest of TMU V-C, son demanded in medical student's rape, murder

Traffic movement on the busy lucknow-Delhi national highway remained paralysed for several hours after a mob squatted on it demanding the arrest of Teerthanker Mahaveer University (TMU) Vice Chancellor (VC) and his son in the alleged rape and murder of a medical student in Amroha on Tuesday morning. The jam could only be lifted after SSP, Rajesh Modak assured prompt action into the matter.

As per reports, a medical student was raped and murdered in Amroha and her body was recovered on Monday evening. The police after preliminary probe suspected sexual assault on the victim before being done to death. A case was lodged against unknown persons and the body was sent for autopsy.

On Tuesday morning, dissatified with the police probe hundreds of agitated students of Teerthankar Mahaveer University gathered on the campus and blocked traffic on the busy National Highway. Alleging that Vice-chancellor Suresh Jain, his son Manish and one Abhishek Kumar were involved in the crime, they demanded their immdeidate
arrest.

They also raised slogan against the authorities claiming that they were helping the accused. later SSP, Rajesh Modek reached the spot and assured to look into the allegations and take strngent action if the charges were found to be true. The blockade was subsequently removed after six hours of chaos.

Meanwhile in Jaunpur, two persons drowned while bathing in Sai river on Monday evening. As per reports, Adesh Upadhyaya (19) of Jalalpur went for a bath in a nearby river, when he suddenly drowned. Some locals rushed to save his life but their efforts went in vein. In another incident at Agapur village, Sanjana (10) drowned in when she went to take bath with her friends on Monday evening. Their bodies were fished out and sent for autopsy. In Mahoba, a farmer committed suicide due to penury and debt in Panvari area on Monday.

Uma Shankar (40) of Panvari hamlet doused himself with kerosene before setting fire to end his life. His kin rushed to his rescue and shifted him to a hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. Uma Shankar had taken over Rs seven lakhs as loan from bank and money lenders and had failed to repay it. When the authorities pressured him and threatened to auction his land, he decided to end his life.
