Light rain may bring relief from heat this week

fter the sweltering heat experienced over the last weekend, the residents of Jharkhand might have some relief as partly cloudy skies with light rain is being predicted for the next few days.

As per the data released by the Meteorological Department on March 19 parts of north- west and southern Jharkhand and the adjoining areas may witness some thunderstorm and light rain while on March 20 and March 21 scattered to fairly widespread rain of light category is being predicted for the State.

The experts at the MET Centre Ranchi also stated that on March 20 and March 21 isolated parts of southern Jharkhand may also witness hailstorm with wind speed of up to 30 to 40 km per hour on the first day and of 40- 50 km per hour on the second day. Isolated parts of northern Jharkhand are likely to face gusty winds with speed of up to 30-40 km per hour on March 20 and 40 to 50 km per hour on March 21.

As per the statistics released by the department on Monday, the highest daytime temperature in the State in the last 24 hours was recorded at Jamshedpur at 40.6 degree Celsius which is 7 notches above normal. Chaibasa was observed at 6.4 degrees above normal at 39.8 degree Celsius while the State capital was recorded at 36.6 degree Celsius which is 5.7 degrees above normal. Daltonganj was recorded at 37.6 degree Celsius and Bokaro at 36.5 degree Celsius which is 4.4 and 4 degrees above normal respectively.  

The highest nighttime temperature was observed in Bokaro at 22.1 degree Celsius which is 7.2 notches above normal. Ranchi and Jamshedpur were both 3.4 and 3.2 degrees above normal at 20.6 and 21.8 degree Celsius respectively.

From March 18 to March 21, the maximum temperature in the State capital and its surrounding areas is expected to be around 34 to 35 degree Celsius and may go down to 30 degree Celsius towards the end of the week.
