IIM Ranchi inaugurated the first batch of its five-day Management Development Programme (MDP) for Mukhiyas of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI), scheduled from March 16 to March 20, 2025. This initiative aims to enhance leadership and governance capabilities among local leaders, equipping them with essential management skills to drive sustainable rural development.
The inaugural event was graced by esteemed faculty members, including Programme Directors Prof. Gaurav Manohar Marathe and Prof. Rajeev Verma, along with Prof. Raveesh Krishnankutty and Prof. Rohit Kumar.
The session began with Prof. Marathe, who provided an overview of PRI and the objectives of the programme, highlighting the rich experience participants bring to the initiative. This was followed by Prof. Verma, who outlined the five-day programme structure. “Urban and rural challenges are distinct and must be addressed differently. Building sustainable structures with limited financial resources is critical. Through collective efforts and shared expertise, we can learn from each other,” he noted.
Prof. Krishnankutty and Prof. Kumar further elaborated on the financial and strategic aspects of PRI, covering governance structures, financial management, revenue generation, and digital governance.
The inaugural ceremony also featured the traditional lighting of the lamp, followed by participant introductions, where attendees expressed enthusiasm for the programme and shared their aspirations for a productive and enriching experience.
With a comprehensive curriculum, the training will focus on stakeholder engagement, mobilization strategies, and visioning for village development. Case studies of successful projects will provide practical insights into innovative rural development models and technology-driven solutions.
This MDP will empower Mukhiyas to effectively plan and execute village development projects, optimize resource management, and implement impactful livelihood strategies. By strengthening leadership capabilities and deepening their understanding of policy frameworks, the initiative reinforces IIM Ranchi’s commitment to grassroots governance and nation-building.
