Bodies of a missing couple were recovered from a canal near Panchubati village under the Sadar police station in Dhenkanal district on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Dusashan Sahu, a former Havildar, and his wife Padmavati, of Panchubati village.
According to reports, the couple had gone missing since Wednesday morning. The couple’s son lodged a missing complaint at the Sadar police station stating that his parents had gone to the canal to take bath and didn’t return.
When some locals spotted the body of Dusashan floating in the canal, they retrieved it. Later, Fire Service personnel launched an operation and fished out the body of Padmavati.
While it was yet to be ascertained what circumstances led to the death of the couple, police initiated an investigation.
