“Won’t tolerate Abhishek Banerjee’s arrogance”: Kalyan Banerjee’s ultimatum deepens TMC crisis

The internal crisis within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has intensified after senior leader Kalyan Banerjee issued a sharp warning against party national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, deepening speculation of widening divisions within the party.
Kalyan Banerjee, a long-time loyalist of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, said that while he continues to support “Didi”, he would not accept what he described as Abhishek Banerjee’s “arrogance.” His remarks come at a time when the party is already facing a wave of resignations and internal rebellion.
“I am still with Didi but won’t tolerate Abhishek Banerjee’s arrogance. I have quit all cases related to Banerjee,” Kalyan Banerjee reportedly said, signaling a possible shift in his political alignment depending on future party decisions.
He further added that the final decision lies with Mamata Banerjee, stating that if she chooses to align with Abhishek Banerjee, he would “decide his own course of action,” further fueling speculation of a split within the party leadership.
The remarks come against the backdrop of growing unrest in the Trinamool Congress following recent electoral setbacks and internal disagreements. The party has reportedly witnessed a significant rebellion, with a large section of lawmakers distancing themselves from the central leadership structure.
In recent developments, several Trinamool Congress MPs and MLAs have reportedly stepped away from active alignment with the party leadership. A faction of lawmakers has also held meetings in New Delhi, raising concerns about coordination and direction within the organisation.
The situation escalated further after multiple parliamentarians resigned from key positions, intensifying discussions about a possible realignment ahead of upcoming political developments. Some leaders, including former members of Parliament such as Sushmita Dev and Prakash Baraik, have also resigned from Rajya Sabha memberships, adding to speculation of a broader political shift.
Political observers say the ongoing infighting between senior leaders and the party’s organisational leadership could significantly impact TMC’s internal cohesion, especially as it faces mounting pressure from opposition parties in West Bengal and at the national level.
As tensions continue to rise, all eyes are now on Mamata Banerjee’s response and whether the party leadership will intervene to resolve the growing divide.
