Women tie rakhi to CM Rekha at Assembly, hail Laxmi Yojana

Women from different parts of Delhi visited the Delhi Legislative Assembly on Friday and tied rakhi on Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s wrist and hailed the recently launched Delhi Laxmi Yojana as a step towards women’s dignity and economic empowerment.

Ahead of the Monsoon Session of the Assembly and the festival of Raksha Bandhan, a large number of women gathered here and garlanded the Chief Minister.

According to the Government, as of 12 pm on Friday, 4,87,181 registrations were completed under the Delhi Laxmi Yojana, while 1,99,679 women had successfully submitted their applications.

At the Assembly, the women who tied rakhi to the Chief Minister said the true spirit of Raksha Bandhan, honouring and protecting sisters, had been translated into reality through the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana. They said the scheme would strengthen women’s confidence and provide financial support to families.

Greeting the women warmly, the chief minister said that the rakhi tied by them was not merely a sacred thread but a symbol of trust, affection and responsibility.

She said that the dignity, safety and empowerment of every sister and daughter in Delhi are among her government’s highest priorities, and that the Government is continuously working with this commitment. She assured the women that the Delhi Government would continue to effectively implement schemes related to women’s welfare, education, healthcare, self-employment, and social security.

The Chief Minister said that the trust of women is the Government’s greatest strength. She assured them that the Delhi Government would continue to effectively implement schemes related to women’s welfare, education, healthcare, self-employment and social security, while making sustained efforts to ensure that every eligible woman receives their benefits. During the interaction, the women also shared a warm conversation with the Chief Minister and extended their Raksha Bandhan greetings to her.

Speaking during the vote of thanks for the scheme’s launch by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta in the ongoing Monsoon Session, Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood said the monthly assistance of Rs 2,500 may not transform lives overnight but could significantly improve the economic conditions of women beneficiaries.

“Rs 2,500 cannot change life, but it can drastically improve their conditions. This scheme will financially empower women of Delhi,” he said. The remarks came during a Delhi Assembly session where AAP MLAs stayed away from the proceedings, boycotting the Session.

Taking a swipe at AAP convenor and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, Sood alleged that the party in Punjab failed to fulfil its promise of providing Rs 1,000 monthly assistance to women. “AAP has not delivered on its 2022 promises, even by 2026. If arrears are to be calculated, they have not paid Rs 48,000 per woman in Punjab,” he said.
