West Bengal To Hand Over Land To BSF Within 45 Days For Border Fencing

The West Bengal government has reaffirmed its commitment to hand over land to the Border Security Force (BSF) within 45 days to speed up fencing work along the India-Bangladesh border.
The move is aimed at strengthening border security, curbing illegal infiltration and completing long-pending infrastructure work in sensitive areas along the international boundary.
The announcement comes as authorities seek to accelerate border fencing in several unfenced stretches across the state.
According to officials, land transfer delays had slowed progress in previous years, affecting security-related projects in multiple districts. The government stated that the decision would help the BSF complete crucial fencing work and improve surveillance mechanisms in vulnerable regions.
Officials said border fencing is considered important for strengthening national security and preventing illegal movement across the border.
The India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal remains one of the country's most sensitive international boundaries, with several stretches still requiring infrastructure development and enhanced monitoring systems.
The decision is expected to give a significant push to ongoing border management efforts while improving coordination between state authorities and security agencies.
