West Bengal Election Results 2026 Live BJP And TMC Register First Wins As Counting Continues

Vote counting for the high-stakes West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 is progressing, with both the Bharatiya Janata Party and the All India Trinamool Congress registering their first confirmed victories even as trends continue to favour the BJP.
According to the latest data released by the Election Commission of India, the BJP has maintained a strong lead across the state, ahead in 192 out of 293 seats, while the TMC is leading in 96 constituencies.
The first declared wins saw BJP’s Saikat Panja secure the Monteswar seat with a margin of over 14,000 votes. On the other hand, TMC’s Reyat Hossain Sarkar won the Bhagawangola seat with a decisive margin exceeding 56,000 votes.
Senior TMC leader and state minister Moloy Ghatak is also leading comfortably in the Asansol Uttar constituency by over 16,000 votes, reflecting pockets of strong performance for the ruling party.
Despite the BJP’s dominant showing in early trends, the TMC has urged caution. Party leaders have raised concerns over the pace of counting and alleged irregularities, terming the situation “fishy” and warning against drawing premature conclusions.
As of mid-afternoon, only around 47% of votes had been counted, indicating that the final outcome could still shift significantly. Earlier in the day, data showed that just over 30% of votes had been tallied by 1:30 pm, further fueling concerns about delays.
The election, which saw record voter turnout exceeding 90% in both phases, is being closely watched. The results will determine whether Mamata Banerjee secures another term for the TMC or if the BJP manages to form its first government in the state.
Meanwhile, other parties including the Congress and the Left have made minimal gains so far, with leads in only a handful of constituencies.
With counting still underway across all 293 seats, the political landscape in West Bengal remains dynamic, and the final verdict is expected later in the day.
