Union minister Jayant Chaudhary gets threat calls

The Delhi Police on Friday launched an investigation after Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary received a threat call from an unidentified caller, later traced to Murshidabad in West Bengal. The caller, identified as Mohammad Ismail, also sent text messages, voice notes and location details allegedly threatening to harm the minister and referencing his “tour programme”.
An FIR has been registered at Tughlak Road police station. Police said they have contacted their counterparts in West Bengal and are working to apprehend the accused, while also reviewing the minister’s security cover.
Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, received the call around 11 AM, a police official said.
According to a complaint filed by his personal assistant Vishvendra Shah, the caller threatened to kill the minister and claimed to possess a sophisticated MP5 gun.
He also asked whether the minister had seen certain documents sent to him before repeatedly issuing threats and disconnecting the call.
The complaint said WhatsApp messages contained details of the minister’s proposed programme along with a note to shoot him. The sender also shared location details and voice notes with repeated death threats.
During further communication, the caller claimed the information had been “sent from High Command”. Police said all angles, including alleged surveillance near the minister’s residence, are being probed, and CCTV footage is being scanned.
