TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee alleges attack in Hooghly amid rising post-poll tensions

Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee alleged that he was attacked and injured outside Chanditala Police Station in West Bengal’s Hooghly district while submitting a memorandum regarding alleged post-poll violence and arrests of party workers.
According to Banerjee, a group of protesters gathered outside the police station, waved black flags, shouted slogans, and allegedly assaulted him during the protest. He claimed to have suffered a head injury and described the incident as an attempt on his life.
The TMC accused BJP supporters of being behind the attack and alleged that the incident occurred in the presence of police personnel.
Following the clash, Banerjee staged a protest outside the police station, criticizing law enforcement for failing to prevent the violence.
The BJP, however, rejected the allegations and claimed that local residents were expressing anger against TMC leaders over recent political developments in the state.
The incident comes just a day after TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee was allegedly attacked during a visit to Sonarpur, where he had gone to meet families affected by post-poll violence.
These back-to-back confrontations have further intensified the political atmosphere in West Bengal, where both the TMC and BJP continue to trade accusations over violence, intimidation, and law-and-order issues following the Assembly elections.
