Tesla launches Model YL in India

Electric vehicle pioneer Tesla Motors, which launched in the Indian market last year, on Wednesday launched their latest offering on the market, the long-wheelbase version of the Model Y.
The Model YL will be priced at Rs 61.99 lakh. The Model Y, which has been the world’s best-selling car for three years continuously, was introduced as a long-wheelbase variant for the Chinese market last year.
The Model YL will be offered as a six-seater in India. It will feature all-wheel drive with dual motors and a certified range of 681 kilometres. It will be the most affordable three-row luxury SUV on the Indian market, as well as being significantly cheaper than the standard Model Y Long-Range. It remains to be seen whether Tesla India will continue to sell their earlier launched models in India.
Speaking to the assembled media, Sharad Aggarwal, Country Head, Tesla India, said that the company was also expanding their service network in the coming months, adding centers in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad after opening a centre in Pune recently.
“Most problems can be fixed by over-the-air updates but we realise that consumers need the comfort of a nearby service centre.” And while Tesla will expand their charging network, Aggarwal highlighted that the company will continue with their strategy of online sales, as the company can ‘deliver anywhere’ and vehicles have been delivered to 21 States in India already. It was also disclosed that Tesla will be potentially launching their energy business in India, which they feel will play a major role in the Artificial Intelligence future. Tesla’s humanoid robot Optimus is also potentially going to be offered in India.
