Tamil Nadu CM Vijay hits back at critics, promises transparent governance at first public rally

Tamil Nadu CM C Joseph Vijay addressed his first major public thanksgiving rally since taking office, using the platform to respond to critics and outline his government's vision for Tamil Nadu.
Speaking at a rally in Tiruchirappalli, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister said opposition parties had started criticising his administration almost immediately after it assumed power. Taking an apparent swipe at M K Stalin and the DMK, Vijay remarked that those who had promised to remain silent for six months could not stay quiet even for six days.
The founder of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) thanked voters for their support and described himself as a "chief servant" dedicated to working for the people. He also expressed confidence that the party would secure an even bigger mandate in future elections.
Vijay reiterated that the recently concluded Assembly election was primarily a contest between TVK and the DMK. He rejected allegations of political horse-trading and accused both the DMK and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) of attempting to prevent TVK from forming the government.
Highlighting his administration's priorities, Vijay promised transparent and corruption-free governance while pledging to eliminate caste-based politics. He also claimed that voters had rejected traditional political parties due to concerns over family-centric politics, corruption and law-and-order issues.
Addressing discussions around his attire, Vijay explained that his black-and-white suit symbolises transparency and simplicity. He said the colours reflect his commitment to honest governance and staying connected with ordinary people.
The actor-turned-politician also paid tribute to legendary leaders including M G Ramachandran, saying he aims to serve the state while following the ideals they represented.
TVK emerged as a major political force in the recent Assembly elections, winning 108 of the 234 seats and reshaping the political landscape of Tamil Nadu. The rally also came amid reports of several opposition leaders joining the ruling party.
