Srinagar Police seize drug peddlers' properties worth over Rs 1 crore
Srinagar Police seized two properties worth more than Rs 1.05 crore belonging to alleged drug peddlers in Srinagar as part of an ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking, a police spokesman said on Thursday, July 30.
The action falls under the Nasha Mukti Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan which is the state's anti-drug campaign, the spokesman stated.
The first property which was valued at approximately Rs 50 lakh, is a residential house and the land beneath it in Pamposh Colony, Palpora, Noorbagh, belonging to Aqib Mushtaq Kenu, according to the spokesman.
It was attached under Section 68-F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, in connection with a case registered at Safakadal police station under Sections 8, 21 and 29 of the NDPS Act.
The accused, however, is currently out on bail, the spokesman revealed.
The second property is worth about Rs 55 lakh which is a three-story residential house with two commercial shops and the land underneath, located at Pathar Masjid, Zainakadal, Srinagar, and belongs to Altaf Ahmad Najar, alias T.K. Khan, the spokesman said.
It was attached under Section 68-F of Chapter VA of the NDPS Act in connection with a case registered under Sections 8 and 21 of the NDPS Act at Kral Khud police station. The accused is under preventive detention pursuant to the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act, 1988, the spokesman said.
Investigators found both properties were acquired using proceeds from illegal narcotics trafficking, according to the spokesman.
The attachment proceedings received approval from the Competent Authority (SAFEMA) in New Delhi and followed all legal and procedural requirements under Chapter VA of the NDPS Act, the spokesman said.
