World leaders congratulate PM Modi for becoming India’s longest-serving elected PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been congratulated by several world leaders after he became India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister, completing an uninterrupted tenure of 4,399 days in office and surpassing the record held by Jawaharlal Nehru.
The milestone, achieved on Wednesday, marks a historic moment in India’s political history and has drawn global recognition, with leaders across Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Pacific praising Modi’s leadership, governance record, and international engagement.
Among the first to congratulate him was Australian political leader Scott Morrison, who praised Modi for transforming India’s economy and strengthening bilateral relations. He highlighted the growing Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and Australia.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim also extended greetings, describing the milestone as a reflection of Modi’s long-standing public service and leadership in India’s development and global standing. He reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening ties with India.
President of Nigeria Bola Ahmed Tinubu called the achievement a testament to the trust placed in Modi across three consecutive electoral mandates. He also described Modi as a close friend and valued partner in strengthening India–Nigeria relations.
President of the Maldives Mohamed Muizzu said the milestone reflects the confidence of the Indian people and acknowledged the strengthening of India–Maldives relations under Modi’s leadership.
President of Kenya William Ruto also congratulated Modi, noting that the achievement reflects the strong mandate he has received from Indian voters over multiple elections and highlighting his journey in public service.
Earlier, leaders including Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape also extended greetings on the milestone.
The record surpasses that of India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, who served for 4,398 days in office. While Nehru also led the country during the early years of independence, Modi’s tenure is noted as the longest continuous elected term as Prime Minister in India.
Modi first assumed office on May 26, 2014, following a landslide electoral victory. He began his second term in 2019 and returned for a third consecutive term in 2024, further extending his uninterrupted leadership at the national level.
The milestone has been widely marked across diplomatic circles, with leaders highlighting India’s growing global influence in trade, technology, and international cooperation under his leadership.
