Woman assaults guard over dog beating claim

A dispute over the alleged beating of a stray dog in west Delhi escalated outside Kirti Nagar Police Station after an animal lover allegedly assaulted a security guard, police said on Monday.

The incident came to light after a video showing a woman repeatedly slapping and hitting the guard with slippers went viral on social media. Police said both the alleged assault on the dog and the attack on the security guard are being examined.

According to police, the matter began on May 7 in the J Block area of Kirti Nagar. A complaint was later filed by Tarun Ghai, a resident of Ramesh Nagar, at Kirti Nagar Police Station on May 8. In his complaint, Ghai alleged that the security guard, identified as Vinod Paswan, had attacked a stray dog with an iron rod. He claimed the animal suffered serious injuries in the incident.

Police said the injured dog was first taken to a private veterinary doctor for treatment and was later shifted to Najafgarh for further medical care. However, the dog reportedly died later during treatment. Officials said the veterinary facility where the animal was treated has not yet formally informed the local police about the death of the dog.

A senior police officer said that while the enquiry into the dog assault allegation was underway, another incident took place outside the police station premises involving a woman who identified herself as an animal lover. The officer said the woman allegedly assaulted the security guard during an argument linked to the dog’s death.
