Why Riyan Parag’s Dressing Room Vaping Sparks Major Code of Conduct Breach in IPL 2026

Riyan Parag has come under scrutiny after he was seen vaping inside the dressing room during an Indian Premier League 2026 match, raising serious concerns over violation of rules and conduct guidelines.

The incident occurred during Rajasthan Royals’ clash against Punjab Kings, when Parag was spotted vaping in the dugout area in the presence of teammates including Yashasvi Jaiswal, Yudhvir Singh Charak, and Kuldeep Sen. The visuals quickly went viral, sparking debate over player discipline and compliance with regulations.

As per guidelines of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited inside stadium premises, including dressing rooms and dugouts, except in designated areas. Such restrictions are part of broader health, safety, and professional conduct protocols.

Beyond cricket regulations, the issue carries legal implications as well. Under India’s Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act 2019, the production, sale, and use of e-cigarettes are banned nationwide. Violations can attract penalties including fines and imprisonment.

While the BCCI has not yet announced any official action, Parag could face disciplinary measures if found guilty of breaching the code of conduct.

The controversy comes at a time when Parag, currently leading Rajasthan Royals, is already under pressure due to inconsistent performances in the ongoing season. The 24-year-old has struggled with form, adding to the scrutiny surrounding his leadership and on-field contributions.

Despite the off-field controversy, Rajasthan Royals secured a victory in the match, successfully chasing down a target of 222 runs against Punjab Kings.

The incident has once again highlighted the importance of discipline and adherence to both sporting regulations and national laws within high-profile tournaments like the IPL.
