VHP backs Ram Temple Trust's decision on Champat Rai, Anil Mishra resignations amid donation probe

The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) said it will abide by whatever decision the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust takes regarding the resignations of its General Secretary Champat Rai and trustee Anil Mishra, asserting that allegations alone do not establish guilt.

The statement comes ahead of a crucial meeting of the Ram Temple Trust in Ayodhya, where members are expected to deliberate on the resignations of Rai and Mishra following an ongoing probe into the alleged embezzlement of temple donations.

Addressing reporters, VHP Joint General Secretary Surendra Jain said the organisation has complete faith in the Trust and would not speculate on the outcome of its meeting.

"The Trust alone will decide, and whatever decision it takes, we will respect. We have full faith in the wisdom of the saints associated with the Trust," Jain said.

Defending both Rai and Mishra, Jain stressed that accusations should not be treated as proof of wrongdoing. He urged people to allow the investigation to reach its logical conclusion before drawing conclusions.

He said Champat Rai has cooperated with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged irregularities and has supported the investigation instead of attempting to evade it. Jain also noted that the Trust acted promptly by registering an FIR after preliminary findings surfaced and did not try to shield anyone.

According to the VHP leader, Rai and Mishra stepped down on moral grounds, describing their resignations as an example of accountability and high ethical standards.

Jain also supported strengthening the Trust's oversight and governance mechanisms, saying the VHP welcomes suggestions that enhance transparency in the management of the Ram Temple Trust.

Reiterating the VHP's long-standing position, he opposed government control over Hindu temples and said religious institutions should be administered by saints and the Hindu community rather than the state.

The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust's meeting, held at the guest house inside the Ram Janmabhoomi complex, is expected to review the SIT's findings, decide on the resignations of Champat Rai and Anil Mishra, and consider appointments to key positions if the resignations are accepted.
