Frustrated Villagers Tie Telecom Technician to Mobile Tower Over Two Years of Poor Network in UP's Fatehpur

A telecom technician was tied to a mobile tower for nearly two hours on Thursday evening, September 10, after residents of Hardauli village in Fatehpur district's Bindki area, fed up with poor mobile connectivity, took him captive to force the company's attention on the issue.

According to police, the technician, Adityabhan Singh, a resident of Basawanpur, had gone to Hardauli to inspect the local power supply when a group of villagers confronted him over the persistent lack of proper 5G network in the area. Villagers allege that despite a private telecom tower being installed in the village around two years ago with promises of resolving connectivity issues, network problems have continued, disrupting phone calls, internet access, online classes and digital payments — even as they continued paying full recharge charges for the inadequate service.

As the confrontation escalated, some villagers reportedly threatened to tie Singh to the tower until company officials arrived to fix the problem, and ultimately followed through, restraining him at the site. Another villager alerted the police 112 helpline, and officers rushed to the spot, freeing Singh and taking him to the police station.

Based on Singh's complaint, police have registered an FIR under Section 127(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against unidentified villagers at Bindki police station. A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media. Investigations are ongoing, and no arrests had been confirmed as of the latest reports.
