UP police investigate alleged confinement, torture of three men at BJP MLA’s residence

Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad district are investigating allegations that three men were held captive and tortured at the residence of BJP MLA Sushant Singh over a gold bracelet that reportedly went missing from the legislator’s home, PTI reported, quoting officials.
The complainants have demanded an FIR against six named individuals, including aides of the MLA, and nine unidentified persons. However, no FIR had been registered so far, Moradabad SP (Rural) Kunwar Akash Singh said. He added that further action would be taken after the investigation.
According to the victims’ family, Atul and Lavesh, who worked as domestic help at the MLA’s residence, and their friend Ramu were allegedly detained and tortured on suspicion of stealing the bracelet.
Ramu’s mother, Omwati, alleged that an aide of the MLA took her son from their home on October 7. By then, she claimed, Atul and Lavesh were already being held at the legislator’s residence.
She further alleged that the three men were hung upside down, beaten with belts, given electric shocks and had salt applied to their wounds.
All three were admitted to a hospital in Kashipur. Officials said Ramu was in critical condition.
Sushant Singh denied the allegations, describing them as baseless. He maintained that the domestic workers had only been questioned about the missing bracelet and had not been assaulted.
Moradabad MP and Samajwadi Party leader Ruchi Veera called for immediate justice for the victims and strict action against those responsible.
Police said further action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
