Ugandan woman isolated in Jaipur hospital after showing Ebola-like symptoms

A 19-year-old woman from Uganda has been admitted to a government hospital in Jaipur after displaying symptoms resembling an Ebola virus infection, health officials said on Friday. Authorities clarified that the disease has not been confirmed and further testing is underway.
The woman arrived in Jaipur as a tourist from Sharjah on an Air Arabia flight and was identified as a suspected case during routine screening at the airport by a state health department medical team. She was immediately shifted to the Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS) Hospital and placed in isolation at a critical care unit.
RUHS Principal Dr Mohnish Grover said a sample from the patient has been sent to Pune for laboratory testing, while a second sample will be collected and dispatched after 48 hours. The woman will remain under quarantine until the test results are received.
Hospital Superintendent Dr Anil Gupta said Ebola cannot be diagnosed solely on the basis of symptoms and stressed that no confirmation of the disease has been made so far. According to health officials, the woman has been experiencing abdominal pain and loss of appetite for nearly a month and is currently complaining of a headache.
As a precautionary measure, authorities have advised passengers who travelled on the same flight to remain in home isolation. Health officials said the situation is being closely monitored and all prescribed safety protocols are being followed.
