Twisha Sharma Case: AIIMS report finds gym belt matched neck injuries

A key forensic report submitted by AIIMS Delhi has marked a significant development in the investigation into the death of Twisha Sharma, whose case is being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

According to sources, the AIIMS medical board's final report confirms that skin tissue found on the alleged gymnastics belt matched the injury pattern on Twisha Sharma's neck, providing crucial forensic evidence in the ongoing investigation. The 11-page report was submitted to the CBI in a sealed cover following directions from the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

The second post-mortem was ordered after the High Court observed that the alleged ligature material had not been examined during the initial autopsy. Laboratory and histopathological examinations conducted by the AIIMS medical board established a physical correlation between the belt and the neck injuries.

Officials have described the findings as an important scientific input for the CBI, though they have not drawn conclusions regarding the manner of death.

Twisha Sharma was found dead at her matrimonial home in Bhopal earlier this year. Following allegations raised by her family, the High Court transferred the investigation to the CBI and ordered a fresh forensic examination. The agency is now expected to use the AIIMS findings, along with other evidence, as part of its continuing investigation into the case.
