Traffic police, civic agencies review congestion, waterlogging hotspots

In a bid to improve traffic movement during the ongoing monsoon, the Delhi Traffic Police on Tuesday held a multi-agency review meeting to assess congestion mitigation measures, identify waterlogging-prone stretches, and discuss infrastructure interventions, including possible road widening and new parking facilities.
The meeting, chaired by Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Manish Agarwal, was attended by senior officials from the Traffic Police, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), Public Works Department (PWD), Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Delhi Jal Board (DJB), Transport Department, Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL).
Speaking to The Pioneer, Agarwal said the meeting extensively deliberated on 24 identified congestion and possible waterlogging stretches across the Capital, with officials reviewing ways to ensure smoother traffic movement in light of the heavy rains witnessed over the past two weeks.
Among the locations discussed were Anand Parbat-New Rohtak Road, Nigambodh Ghat, 100 Futa Road near Burari, Kapashera, DM Office LBS, Okhla Underpass, Jahangirpuri Metro, Pandav Nagar Underpass and the tunnel connecting India Gate to Ring Road.
Agarwal said officials also examined proposals to widen roads along select stretches to ease bottlenecks, particularly during the monsoon, when waterlogging often compounds traffic congestion.
The review further covered plans to set up additional traffic police booths, create a basement and multi-level parking facilities, and implement other infrastructure improvements to streamline vehicular movement across the city.
According to the traffic police, a detailed presentation was made before the participating agencies outlining issues raised with different departments, action taken so far and the status of ongoing interventions. Officials said the progress reflected improved coordination among civic and infrastructure agencies.
The stakeholder agencies agreed to work closely to ensure the timely completion of ongoing infrastructure projects, expedite the resolution of interdepartmental issues, and implement measures to improve traffic flow and mitigate congestion and waterlogging across Delhi.
Delhi Traffic Police said such review meetings would continue to monitor progress and strengthen coordination among agencies responsible for the city’s transport and road infrastructure.
