Tamil Nadu CM Vijay meets PM Modi in Delhi after 12 years

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Wednesday in a politically significant interaction that has drawn attention across the national political landscape.
The meeting took place at Seva Teerth in the national capital and lasted around 25 minutes. It marked Vijay’s first official meeting with PM Modi in 12 years and his first visit to Delhi after assuming office as Chief Minister.
The interaction has triggered widespread political speculation about evolving equations between the Centre and Tamil Nadu’s new leadership, especially given the rapid rise of Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
Following the meeting, Vijay also arrived at Tamil Nadu House, where he was given a ceremonial guard of honour during his first official visit to the capital after taking office.
As part of his Delhi itinerary, Vijay is expected to meet several senior national leaders, including Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Meetings with Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge are also reportedly scheduled.
The visit comes shortly after TVK’s strong electoral performance, where the party emerged as a major force in the Tamil Nadu Assembly and formed the government with support from multiple regional and national allies. The government recently secured a trust vote with significant backing in the Assembly.
Political observers say the Delhi meetings reflect Vijay’s growing national profile and signal the beginning of a new phase in Tamil Nadu’s Centre-state relations. However, neither side has disclosed details of the discussion with PM Modi.
The development is being closely watched as regional parties continue to recalibrate strategies ahead of upcoming political contests in southern India.
