Suvendu Adhikari chairs first West Bengal Cabinet Meeting; finalises 6 projects

Suvendu Adhikari on Monday chaired the first Cabinet meeting of the newly formed West Bengal government, two days after taking oath as Chief Minister.
The meeting was held at Nabanna, the state secretariat in Howrah, and was attended by five ministers who were sworn in along with Adhikari, senior bureaucrats and top government officials.
Addressing the media after the meeting, the Chief Minister said the new government would function according to constitutional principles and move away from political favouritism in governance.
“We held the first Cabinet meeting today. Five ministers who took oath with me participated in the meeting. Along with them, several government officials also attended the meeting on the invitation of the Chief Secretary,” Adhikari said.
“This government will end the practice of governance for the party by the party and ensure constitutional principles of government for the people by the people,” he added.
The Chief Minister said six projects were finalised during the meeting, though detailed information regarding the projects is expected to be announced later.
Adhikari also assured citizens that all existing social welfare schemes in the state would continue without interruption.
“No existing social welfare scheme will be stopped by the West Bengal government,” he said, attempting to reassure beneficiaries amid the political transition in the state.
Earlier in the day, Adhikari was accorded a Guard of Honour at Nabanna after formally assuming office as Chief Minister.
The BJP leader took oath as West Bengal Chief Minister on May 9 following a major political shift in the state after the Assembly elections.
