Supreme Court issues Notice to CBSE on plea seeking declaration of class 12 improvement exam result

The Supreme Court of India has issued a notice to the Central Board of Secondary Education (Central Board of Secondary Education) on a petition seeking directions to declare the Class 12 improvement examination result of a student currently residing in Saudi Arabia.

A bench comprising Justices Manmohan and Vijay Bishnoi agreed to examine the plea and sought a response from CBSE and its regional office in the matter.

During the hearing, the court orally observed that the issue concerns the academic future of a student and urged timely resolution, noting that delays in declaring results could affect admission opportunities.

The petition has been filed by student Pransu Jigarkumar Patel, who appeared as a private candidate for the CBSE Class 12 improvement examination in 2026 from Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia, in subjects including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English, and Computer Science.

According to the plea, CBSE has not declared his result despite an existing assessment framework for students in Gulf countries whose examinations were cancelled due to regional tensions. The petitioner claimed that multiple representations made to the board remained unanswered.

The case also highlights that CBSE had cancelled Class 12 examinations in several Middle Eastern countries, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Iran, due to geopolitical tensions linked to the Iran-Israel-US situation.

The Supreme Court has directed CBSE to file its response and scheduled the matter for further consideration.
