Sikkim lifts odd-even rule across state, Gangtok excluded from relaxation

The Sikkim government has withdrawn the odd-even restriction on private vehicles across all districts of the state with immediate effect, bringing relief to residents after weeks of fuel conservation measures.
However, the relaxation will not apply to Gangtok town, where the existing odd-even traffic regulation will continue.
The decision was taken after the state reviewed fuel availability and confirmed that sufficient buffer stocks of petrol and diesel had been secured.
According to a Home Department notification, restrictions on government vehicles imposed earlier will remain in force until further orders.
The government also withdrew an earlier notification issued on May 20 while partially amending the May 14 order that introduced the vehicle restrictions.
The odd-even policy was introduced as part of broader austerity measures following concerns over fuel supply amid the West Asia crisis.
Other measures included reducing the Chief Minister’s convoy, adopting a five-day work week in government offices, work-from-home arrangements for some employees, and cuts in fuel allocations for official vehicles.
Officials said the latest relaxation reflects improved fuel availability, though traffic control measures within Gangtok will continue to manage congestion and vehicle movement.
