Seven workers killed several injured after boulder collapses at Bengaluru stone quarry

At least seven workers were killed and several others injured after a massive boulder collapsed at a stone quarry in Madapatna village on the outskirts of Bengaluru on Thursday morning. The incident occurred during quarrying operations when a huge rock reportedly broke loose from a height of around 40 feet and crashed onto workers at the site, trapping many beneath the debris.
Rescue teams, police, and district officials rushed to the spot and launched a search and recovery operation.
According to police, the deceased were mostly migrant labourers from Bihar employed at the quarry. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment, while authorities continued clearing debris to ensure no workers remained trapped.
Officials have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the collapse and whether safety norms were violated during quarry operations.
Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar expressed grief over the tragedy and directed officials to submit a detailed report.
He also said strict action would be taken if any violations of quarrying regulations or worker safety norms were found. The incident has once again raised concerns over safety standards in mining and quarrying operations.
