Punjab Police disposes of 7,402 unclaimed vehicles in major statewide drive

The Punjab Police has successfully disposed of 7,402 unclaimed and seized vehicles from police stations across the state as part of a major vehicle disposal drive aimed at freeing up space, improving police infrastructure, and ensuring compliance with legal guidelines.

The initiative follows efforts by the state government and the judiciary to clear long-pending vehicles lying at police stations and government premises.

According to officials, the drive was carried out after completing the required legal formalities, including verification of ownership, court procedures, and documentation. Many of these vehicles had remained unclaimed for years, occupying valuable space and creating administrative and safety concerns at police stations.

The disposal process was conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and the Motor Vehicles Act, ensuring transparency and legal compliance.

Punjab Police said the campaign is part of a broader initiative to modernise police infrastructure and improve public service delivery.

Authorities believe the clearance of unclaimed vehicles will help create better working conditions at police stations while reducing fire hazards, environmental risks, and congestion caused by abandoned vehicles. The department has indicated that similar disposal drives will continue across the state to address the backlog of seized vehicles.
