Retired Army man, wife hacked to death at home in UP's Hathras

A retired Army man and his wife were allegedly hacked to death with a sharp-edged weapon at their home near the Agra bypass here, police said on Sunday.

The bodies of Shamsuddin, 58, and his wife Saddo Begum, 55, were found lying in a pool of blood at their house in the Sadabad Kotwali area.

According to police, the incident took place during the night. The bodies were discovered around 9.30 am on Sunday after the house remained closed and local residents raised an alarm, following which police were informed.

Superintendent of Police Chiranjeev Nath Sinha and Circle Officer Yogendra Krishna Narayan reached the spot with police personnel and inspected the scene. Forensic experts and a dog squad were also called in to assist with the investigation.

"Prima facie, it appears that they were killed with a sharp-edged weapon. Necessary legal action is being taken," the SP said.

He said the motive behind the killings had not been established and five teams had been formed to identify the perpetrators and solve the case.

Shamsuddin had retired from the Army around 20 years ago, police said. He had two wives and used to stay with them alternately.

Police said he was staying with his first wife, Saddo Begum, at the house near the Agra bypass on Saturday night when the incident allegedly took place.
