Rajasthan Minister Sanjay Sharma protests over sanitation workers' appointments

Rajasthan Minister of State for Forests Sanjay Sharma on Wednesday sat on a dharna along with sanitation workers at the Alwar Municipal Corporation over the issue of their appointment.

Blaming the Alwar collector and the municipal commissioner for the "delay" in appointment of sanitation workers, Sharma said he would not leave the protest site until the workers were issued appointment letters.

He said that Rajasthan High Court had given direction for the appointment of sanitation workers in 2012-recruitment and the municipal corporation sought guidance from the director of local self government regarding the appointment letters.

After months of communication, the authorities were about to issue appointment letters to 69 candidates but it was later put on hold, he claimed.

He said members from the Valmiki community informed him that officers have allegedly denied them appointment letters.

"I spoke to the district collector but her attitude was surprisingly negative. She appeared to be adamant and not in a mood to dispose the matter so I came to the corporation office and sat on dharna with the community members," he told reporters.

"I also communicated the issue to the chief minister's office," he said.

Collector Artika Shukla could not be contacted for comments
